Muffett discusses growing demand for in-home care that enables seniors to live at home

MINNEAPOLIS - May 2, 2013 - PRLog -- The Star Tribune recently interviewed Dorothy Muffett, founder of Baywood Home Care (http://www.baywoodhomecare.com/), about the demand for her company’s services in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro and surrounding areas of south-central and southwestern Minnesota.

While some of the article detailed Muffett’s background with General Mills, part of which was spent as a vice president in the cereal division, the article’s main focus was the Baywood Home Care  company that Muffett founded in 2000.

“If we can do a better job of getting out the message that receiving care at home can be easy, affordable and allow you to keep your freedom and your privacy ... I think a certain number of people will say, ‘I’ll do that,’ ’’ Muffett said.

Baywood Home Care was started in order to provide an alternative to nursing homes or assisted living facilities. By providing experienced caregivers that come to clients’ homes, Baywood Home Care has been able to help people to live how and where they want, thus providing a higher level of freedom. Given a choice, most people would prefer to remain in their homes, surrounded by things that are familiar, as well as family and friends.

Baywood Home Care offers a range of services that include hourly assistance, 24-hour live-in care, and overnight care. This allows clients to receive customized services that match their needs. Baywood serves not only the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro but also most areas of south-central and southwestern Minnesota, as well as Litchfield and Hutchinson.

Baywood Home Care currently has about 150 employees working as home health aides, all of whom have training and experience in working with clients with a variety of different needs including dementia care. The home health aides are supervised by Registered Nurses and provide many kinds of assistance and care including medication administration, bathing and personal care, dementia care, meal preparation, driving to appointments, etc.

The company is expected to grow in the future as more people learn about the home care option as an alternative to living in a facility such as a nursing home.   Though individual situations vary, the cost is generally comparable to that of alternative options such as assisted living or nursing homes.  Long Term Care Insurance can be used to cover all or part of the cost of care at home.

About Baywood Home Care: Founded in 2000, Baywood Home Care provides quality home care services to residents of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro, south-central and southwestern Minnesota, Litchfield and Hutchinson.  Baywood Home Care offers a variety of services to clients that include assistance with activities of daily living, companionship, Alzheimer’s care, housekeeping, meal preparation, and driving to appointments.  Contact Baywood Home Care here (http://www.baywoodhomecare.com/contact/) or by calling 763-546-8899 for a free consultation.
