Child Internet Safety - Protect, Prevent, Pursue

If you’re unsure about where to find the best resources to educate your pupils about e-safety then booking a place to attend the Child Internet Safety summit, taking place on July 11th at the QEII Conference Centre in Westminster, is a must.

May 1, 2013 - PRLog -- New guidelines from Ofsted, issued late last year, mean that inspectors will be on the lookout for the provisions your school has put in place to protect and educate staff and pupils about online dangers. The framework is concerned with safeguarding pupils online, meaning schools must revise their priorities to make sure e-safety is featured.

If you’re unsure about where to find the best resources to educate your pupils about e-safety then booking a place to attend the Child Internet Safety summit (http://www.childinternetsafety.co.uk/), taking place on July 11th at the QEII Conference Centre in Westminster, is a must. As well as earning you 8 hours of CPD accreditation, you can have your say when you contribute to the interactive panel debate.

David Brown, National ICT Advisor for Ofsted, will be taking questions from delegates during the interactive panel debate alongside Claire Perry, UK Government Advisor on Childhood, Lisa Nandy, Shadow Children’s Minister, Peter Liver, Director of Childline Services and Reg Bailey, CEO of Mothers Union. Teachers, ICT Managers, Department Heads, Headmasters and Principles can register FREE to attend the summit and interact with the speakers throughout the morning session.

Many teachers are unaware of the full extent of online risks. If you don't know what an online risk is, your online behaviour can put you at risk. Learning about e-safety is a vital life skill. Empowering children at an early age with the knowledge to safeguard themselves and their personal information is something that can be nurtured throughout school to see them into adult life.

Ofsted have made the expectations that need to be met very clear:

All teaching and non-teaching staff should be aware and able to recognise e-safety issues with high-quality leadership and management to make e-safety a priority
High priority given to training and continuation training to all staff, including the contribution of the wider school community. One member of staff to receive accredited training (for example: to become an e-safety officer)
Clear reporting processes
Rigorous, plain English policies and procedures integrated with other relevant policies
Progressive e-safety curriculum
Provision of a recognised internet service provider (ISP) with age-related filtering
Good risk assessment

The Child Internet Safety summit (http://www.childinternetsafety.co.uk/), which is sponsored by Disney Club Penguin and AVG, is bringing together officials from across the education sector and those responsible for safeguarding children. Senior representatives, including Heads of ICT in Local and Central Government/Education departments and Head Teachers, Police, IT Managers, Social Services and E-safety experts will establish how we can educate children to avoid becoming the victims of online predators.

This unique platform, a one day international event, and the only one of its kind in the UK, is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Safer Internet Day. The Child Internet Safety summit has been designed to equip teachers and frontline practitioners with the skills, knowledge and resources to convey important age-appropriate messages within the classroom and beyond. By introducing delegates to companies and suppliers who are leading the way in developing tools and services that will combat the exploitation of children online, the summit is set to be the only place where you can access the latest developments in online child safety. By attending the event, you can be secure in the knowledge that you are equipped with all the resources and information you need to prevent the abuse of children online.
