The Turkish Music Makams echoed in BostonThe 12th Boston Turkish Film and Music Festival closed with a fascinating concert, “The Harp in Makams”. In the concert harpist Sebla Akbulut, kemençe player Nağme Yarkın and soloist Hayat Köprüce Mertel performed a vast variety of songs ranging from the works of neoclassics to contemporary composers.
By: Boston Turkish Film & Music Festival Erkut Gömülü, director of the festival, said the fact that the works of Turkish composers were enjoyed and accepted so much by an international audience who mostly are not familiar with this kind of music has once again showed that the language of music is universal. This concert was the last event of the 12th Boston Turkish Film and Music Festival, which lasted for nearly six weeks. The festival organizers stated that they were very pleased with the interest they have received, and this year they reached approximately 160,000 people throughout the festival by its events and media campaigns. Festival organizers thanked all directors, producers, artists, musicians who participated in this year’s festival, as well as its sponsors, mainly Turkish Cultural Foundation, Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and Turkish Airlines, for their support and participation. Next year’s festival dates are announced as March 20 – April 26, 2014.
