Munger Construction To Upgrade North Branford DPW Salt And Sander Garage

BRANFORD, Conn. - April 30, 2013 - PRLog -- Branford, CT; The Town of North Branford Department Of Public Works has selected Pat Munger Construction Company, Inc. to upgrade its salt and sander garage so that nine fully loaded trucks can be stored in a heated building and be ready to go when forecasted storms arrive.

Munger will build a 5,250 sq. ft. energy efficient Varco-Pruden pre-engineered steel building addition to the original 3,450 sq. ft. facility that Munger had erected in 2003 to enable truck bed mounted sand and salt spreaders to easily slip in and out of dump truck chassis from their overhead storage station.  A new 8-inch thick slab will be extended through the original building and support the entire facility's footprint. Radiant heat from hot water tubes embedded within the concrete will make the building energy efficient since the heat won't escape when the doors open.  Munger will upgrade the original building to have insulated walls and roof that meet energy codes.  The project will also include electrically operated, insulated overhead doors, and an exterior concrete apron with bollards to protect door edges.

"The original open air, 3-sided building created problems for us due to frozen sand and salt causing inefficiencies and frustrations as our drivers got started later and had to frequently stop during application to loosen their payloads", said Fran Merola, DPW Director". We expect time savings and efficiency improvements from starting jobs earlier and not having to deal with frozen sand and salt during application."
