ACCA-KCCI Pre-Budget Seminar 2013-14

 
KARACHI, Pakistan - April 30, 2013 - PRLog -- ACCA-KCCI Pre-Budget Seminar 2013

In order to facilitate industry, government and financial expert engagement and perspective sharing on the shape of the upcoming Federal Budget, ACCA Pakistan in collaboration with Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry organised a Pre-Budget Seminar in Karachi on 29th April 2013.

The event commenced with welcome remarks from Mr. Muhammad Haroon Agar, President KCCI which was followed by an address from Mr. Arif Masud Mirza, Head of ACCA Pakistan. In the session, ACCA Pakistan, KCCI and other experts discussed various recommendations on the upcoming budget 2013-14. The chief guest of the seminar was Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Dean & Director, IBA and former Governor, State Bank of Pakistan. The seminar speakers included Komail Badami, Partner Badami Law Associates & Member of ACCA Member Network Panel and Mr Muhammad Ibrahim Kasumbi, Chairman-GST & Refunds Sub-Committee, KCCI.The seminar was attended by economists, employers and members from the financial fraternity

Mr. Arif Masud Mirza discussed three broad policy recommendations for FBR which included more fairness in the system, certainty and lastly pointed out that the burden of tax payments should be shared by all people and across all sectors. ACCA had put together some, which were shared by Komail Badami, who is the member of fair taxation committee of our ACCA Members Network Panel. Dr.Ishrat Hussain also shared specific recommendations focused on growth for economy and requirement of a fair taxation system, reducing government expenditure because in his opinion these will play a vital role in dealing with the core issues of our country, and can thus instigate the required growth. Mr. Mohammad Ibrahim Kasumbi presented on Vision 2020 Budget Proposals for Fiscal Year 2013-14.  He said that the nation expects more than just figures and that Budget 2013-14 will have to set the direction for the future. He also added that a routine budget will send a negative signal and the budget makers must demonstrate how serious they are in turning around the economy. The upcoming budget has to show the resolve, the vision and a sense of direction for the future course of economy.
