EVANSTON, Ill. - April 29, 2013 - PRLog -- EVANSTON, IL -- Center For Artful Intention (CFAI) will moderate a panel discussion on gun violence at Curt's Cafe in Evanston on May 15th at 7 pm. The panel will include Carolyn Murray and Jeanne Bishop, and will be led by Rachel Prendergast.

"The Chicago area and Evanston have been especially hard hit by hand gun violence in the last several months," commented Rachel Prendergast, Co-Founder of CFAI. "For those directly and indirectly affected, concern and anxiety run high. This program focuses the public discussion on how people can better manage through difficult times as victims of violence."

The panel is part of a month-long programming focus by CFAI on gun violence that begins this Friday May 3 with a juried art exhibition that will be displayed at Curt's Cafe through June 7, 2013.

Participants on the panel include Carolyn Murray and Jeanne Bishop.

Ms. Murray is an Evanston resident and former Naval Reservist who has done extensive work in her community around violence. She has organized a successful gun buy back program, planned a candlelight vigil at ETHS football stadium and hosted the the 5th Ward National Night Out event. On November 29, 2012 Ms. Murray tragically lost her 19 year old son Justin to gun violence. She was educated and attended the University of Illinois with an undergraduate double major in Business Management and Marketing. She is a single mom with two children.

She volunteers with the Brady Campaign through its Million Mom March chapters as well as with the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence. A frequent writer and speaker on the topic, she and her sister were honored with the Brigid Award by the humanitarian organization CONCERN for their extensive work against gun violence. She is married and has two young sons.
