ORLANDO, Fla. - April 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Hurricane Grill and Wings of Longwood, Florida aimed at improving Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education has established  a Positive Engineering Student Scholarship  for the Institute of Engineering at Lyman High School.

Partners of the Heart (POTH), Happy Orlando Stories site www.happyorlando.com/node/321 was selected for its web based  and interactive system where people pay a minimum of $1 to share a positive Orlando story that will be digitally archived forever.  At least 25% of the paid story will help Positive Engineering Student Scholarship @ Lyman High School.

Only 32% of fourth-graders, 31% of eighth-graders, and 21% of twelfth-graders scored “proficient” in science. One-third of US students, who intend to major in engineering, switch majors before graduating. Overall, the United States ranks 27th among developed nations in the proportion of college students receiving undergraduate degrees in science or engineering.

“We are thrilled to partner with Hurricane Grill and Wings Longwood and facilitate a time capsule of 1 Billion Happy Orlando stories,” POTH co-founder Bennett Sandy Masin said. “Essentially everything that we use in a given day was designed by engineers. POTH will record Orlando stories in a fun way that gives STEM recognition to empower more students for STEM education and careers.”

Hurricane Grill & Wings Longwood Positive Engineering Student Scholarship Program is open to the Institute for Engineering at Lyman High School’s current students or graduates who plan to major in a specified course of study that focuses on Architectural Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Bioengineering, Computer Modeling and Simulation and Electrical Engineering programs of study.

"Hurricane Grill & Wings is excited to partner with POTH to raise funds for the Student Scholarship as the need to improve STEM for K-12 students in our community is profound," said Kurt Webster, Owner  of Hurricane Grill and Wings. "With 52 million worldwide visitors a year and over 2 million people living in Greater Orlando there is an abundance of fun stories to share that precisely is the kind of spirit people experience at our restaurant that pulled our community through tough economical times."

To kick off the program Hurricane awarded its first student scholarship awards for excellence to Bret Del Castillo a senior engineering student at the Institute of Engineering.

Joannie Shalls, Facilitator/Counselor Institute for Engineering at Lyman High School commented, "Lyman was extremely excited when we were approached about this scholarship opportunity. Everyday we have positive stories taking place in our engineering classes. We are very proud of the innovation and creativity of our engineering students. They are paving the way for the future. Partners of the Heart and Hurricane Grill exemplify how members of the community can come together for the greater good."

About POTH
Partners of the Heart is a web based and interactive company where people pay a minimum of $1 to share a positive story that will be digitally archived forever. The reason people pay for these stories is because our clients who are non-profits receive a minimum of 25% of the $1 story and those funds are filtered directly back into the charitable organization. Charities have had a hard time reaching their audience digitally and this gives them an outlet and an additional way to finance or capitalize their charity.
