EDMONTON, Alberta - April 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Bluff,” is the brain child of Alberta resident, Jewelle Colwell, who serves as the Executive Producer, as well as its star.  The show is a serialized drama focusing on the lives of under police officers. In addition to being a riveting drams, “Bluff,” also focuses on social issues of the day, including addiction, human trafficking, and domestic abuse. Colwell is a multiple award nominee, and a best actress winner for her role in the film, “Missing Link.” She says the objective of the series is not only to entertain, but also to educate; “We want to focus on those issues we feel are relevant and important.” The fact that most of the lead characters are women is not accidental,  but according to Colwell, it ”gives BLUFF a multi-layered higher purpose of truth and light in a society where women are frequently viewed as weak and one-dimensional.” “Bluff” faces some very stiff competition: Former AMPIA award winner “Heartland,” is also nominated along with AMC’s gritty Western “Hell on Wheels, ‘’ and the Superstation’s hit comedy, “Tiny Plastic Men.”   “Bluff,” shares  many similarities, and a few differences with the other nominees: All are shot in Alberta, “Bluff,” and “Heartland” feature women as leads, ‘Bluff,”  and “Hell on Wheels’” share many crew members, including Director of Photography, Marvin Rush, and “Bluff,” and “Tiny Plastic Men,” are produced by local filmmakers. Bluff’s cast includes Judy Norton (“The Waltons), who also co- wrote and directs, Alison Wandzura(Fringe) and Mark Gantt .

What really sets “Bluff” apart from the other nominees is the show’s status: Bluff has yet to be aired. “Bluff,” is set to be shown in several countries later this spring,  but the series has yet to find a home in the US or Canada.  The producers are hoping that the notoriety from this nomination will help them to achieve the success of the other nominees.

The 2013 Alberta Film and Television Awards, also known as the Rosie Awards, will be held on Saturday May 25 at the4 Winspear Center in Edmonton. The Awards ceremony will also be streamed live on the internet.
