J-CAT Community Theatre, and J-CAT Youth will present the powerful and poignant Dear Esther, directed by Michael Andron.
By: Michael-Ann Russell JCC The Play, Dear Esther, was written by Playwright, Richard Rashke, after being inspired by letters written by students at schools across the country where Survivor, Esther Raab had shared her experiences of the Holocaust. Rashke, tells the story of Esther Terner Raab of Vineland, and her escape from the Sobibor Death Camp. The play also illustrates Esther’s commitment to helping students learn the lessons of the past, and the effects of bigotry, prejudice and hatred, and proves that the events of the Holocaust should not be forgotten. “Although this play has some tough dialogue, it further exemplifies the bravery of many Holocaust survivors, and their perseverance to speak out and teach other generations about historical atrocities, and unparalleled human spirit,” mentioned the play’s Director, Michael Andron. Several Miami-Dade schools will be in attendance at various matinee performances to explore and understand the play’s powerful message. Playwright, Richard Rashke will be in attendance to conduct a post-show talk back following the performances on May 4 and 5.
