Just in time for Mother’s Day: A book of funny “Momisms” from people all over America

From the classic “Always wear clean underwear in case you get in an accident,” to the quirky, “Don’t walk on the carpet, you’ll mess up the vacuum lines!” the new book by Boise, Idaho author Patti Murphy, reveals what moms have been telling their kids for generations.

Murphy, who has worked in media and communications for more than 30 years, became interested in the power of momisms in the mid-1990s when a friend acknowledged she had never eaten a shrimp because her mother always told her that shrimp tails were poisonous.

“What moms tell kids is pretty powerful and no matter how silly and meaningless momisms may seem, we always remember them. I wanted to capture some of those memories from around the country in this book,” Murphy said.

Mother Knows Better momisms range from eating, proper attire, money, dating, and lying, to love, bathroom habits, heaven, passing gas, being true to yourself, and other topics that mothers think about.
