FAIRFAX, Va. - April 25, 2013 - PRLog -- National Volunteer Week is April 21st through April 27th and the Friends of Frying Pan Farm Park is honoring all of the volunteers – both service and fundraising volunteers -- who support its mission to “interpret the agricultural process and rural community life and landscape for the educational, cultural and recreational enrichment of citizens and visitors of Fairfax County” and expanding its volunteer program.
Mr. Jack Pitzer, President of the Friends of Frying Pan Farm Park said, “It’s important to honor all the volunteers who make it possible for us to accomplish our mission: the direct service volunteers at the farm, including everyone who helps with our special events at Farm Day, the annual 4-H Fair, the equestrian events, and the music events, as well as the fundraising volunteers who plan and run the fundraising events.  We want to recognize the hard work and dedication of the youth, adult and senior volunteers who help us keep the Park vibrant and to announce that we are expanding our volunteer program at Frying Pan Farm Park.”

Yvonne Johnson, Park Manager has said, “With the addition of Michelle Edwards, our new Assistant Manager of History and Visitor Services, who comes to Frying Pan by way of the National Park Service, one of our top priorities for 2013 is expanding interpretive programming for visitors of all ages, including older children and youth.  This means that we have expanded opportunities for youth and adult volunteers to help bring to life what it was like to live and work on a 1930’s era farm.

Frying Pan Farm Park is a resource for the entire county and region, and one aspect of that is providing opportunities for youth and adults to contribute to the greater good, and to help preserve the traditions that once were the dominant way of life in Fairfax County.   Johnson said, "Parks and historic sites are the last remnants of uniqueness in our communities. They are part of what makes our communities feel like home.”

Frying Pan Farm Park has opportunities for many types of volunteers, including driving the tractor for the wagon rides, working in the garden, leading park and historic Meeting House tours, becoming a farm house docent, repairing antique farm equipment, helping at special events, fundraising events, and working in the Visitor Center to mention just a few.

Volunteering is a chance to help support a truly unique part of your local environment.  Learn more about the possible volunteer opportunities by calling us at 703-437-9101.
