Oakridge Reunites Parents with Childhood

HYDERABAD, India - April 25, 2013 - PRLog -- A place where we learn our first alphabet

A place where new friends met

A place where we know what is good and bad

A place where we know how to turn around the sad

A place where fun and work go hand in hand

A place where things are never bland

A place where things are cool

The place is our school

Oakridge International School became a place of fun and frolic yet again. This time the celebrities were none other than the people who started this school. They are the parents who entrusted upon the school the future of their children.

We all have a dream, that our children become the best of who they are. It’s not always easy to understand why our kids do what they do and neither do we know how each kid might differ from the other. The earlier we realise that each kid has a talent that is waiting to be unearthed, the earlier we guide them to achieving their dream.

Our goal at Oakridge is not to pressurise our kids with a lots of homework and written work and games and art and craft and so on and so forth. We feel that the kids should learn not through books alone but through each and every activity that they do. They learn rules through dance. They learn science through field trips. They learn group work through games.

We realised that the school is never enough to teach our kids. We need support and who else to give that support than the parents. Therefore, they needed some push towards the teaching style of Oakridge. Now, don’t worry, we didn’t go ahead and make them sit in rooms and go through books and presentations and workshops. We explained them through the best way ever – GAMES!

Oakridge started its play with the first step – grouping. The groups were allotted in such a fashion that people who knew each other were competitors not partners and that is when the games began. The Shah Rukh Khan’s and Katrina Kaif’s flowed in the first game of “Who am i?” where parents enacted personalities. Then the childhood favourite “Grab the bone”, bought out the swiftness and cheers and it was hard to differentiate between the children and parents. “Lemon race”, was further carried out with more enthusiasm and master pieces were created in the “Art Attack”. Age, place and purpose of the day were all forgotten in blissful moments, followed by a dance. The children on the other hand were also participating in ‘Who Am I, Bucket the Ball, Art Attack and Tug of War’ where they channelled all their energy to win loads of chocolates.

The surprises did not end here. Oakridge with Dr. Deepti Gupta, Professor & Specialist, Applied Linguistics inaugurated the Language Lab where children will not only learn about technology, but will also be part of an era of learning languages through technology and learning to connect to various cultures.

Ms. Deepti Gupta works a Professor in English at Punjab University. A certified examiner of British Library, Ms. Deepti is a M.A. (English Literature and Linguistics), M.Phil. (Stylistics) and PhD (ELT).  She is also an author of publications like Communicative Language Teaching and An Outline History of English Literature.

The day ended on another positive note with the children passing with flying colours and taking a huge leap forward into the laps of Oakridge International School. The parents were left wondering when the next PTM would be conducted.
