By: Paul Queen (April 24, 2013—New Smyrna Beach, FL) Inlet Condominium Association, located in New Smyrna Beach, Florida gained the respected honor of being named the 2013 small community winner for the Civic Volunteerism and Advocacy Award, in the highly competitive Florida Communities of Excellence Competition, on April 5, 2013. While three small communities were named finalists in the Civic Volunteerism and Advocacy division, Inlet Condos was dubbed the worthy winner, because of its community involvement in local non-profit organization, Chisolm Head Start program. The Head Start program started in 1965, and today is a national organization in nearly every county in the U.S. The program is focused on providing children, ages three to five (and sometimes younger) and their families of low-income, with the proper tools for success in life. These essentials include educational activities, free medical and dental care, healthy meals and snacks, a safe place to play, and for the children aided by Inlet Condominium Association, a proper holiday. The Christmas program has been in action since 2000 and starts during in November. Donations of money and/or gifts are collected from the people of Inlet Condos and a community-wide wrapping party in the clubhouse is held. These donations are directly addressed and given to the deprived children and families by Santa Clause (Mr. Dick Taylor of the Inlet Condominium) Linda Armstrong, the Sentry Management Community Manager of Inlet Condominium Association said, “This program is something that really warms your heart. The selflessness and dedication this community devotes to the children and families of Head Start, especially through their Christmas program, is inspiring. Seeing the direct impact of the near $6,000 the community was able to contribute in 2012, absolutely changed lives. I cannot think of a more deserving association for the distinction of the Communities of Excellence Award in Civic Volunteerism and Advocacy.” Inlet Condominium in New Smyrna Beach, Florida is a luxurious ocean front condominium, located on Central Florida’s east cost.
