By: Middletown Honda To accommodate the production of the Accord Hybrid, the Marysville plant is undergoing a 95,000 square foot expansion, representing a $23 million investment by Honda. This expansion allows Honda to increase the length of assembly lines, adding the needed space for outfitting models with the necessary Hybrid equipment. Jeff Tomko, the manager of the Marysville Auto Plant is very excited to adapt the plant to suit the needs of the 2014 Accord. According to Tomko, the Marysvile Auto Plant has accommodated eight previous generations of the Honda Accord over the last 30 years. Their experience makes them well suited to handling the future of this model. The new Accord Hybrid utilizes many of the same drivetrain components as the Accord Hybrid Plug-in. This includes a new Earth Dreams Technology 2.0L i-VTEC four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine with two pairs of electric motors. Earth Dreams is Honda's new suite of fuel efficient technology, helping to provide drivers with the fuel savings they want without sacrificing power. The Earth Dreams 2.4L four-cylinder engine in the conventional 2013 Honda Accord earned a spot on Ward's 10 Best Engines list thanks to both its efficiency and performance.
