Methodist Hospital Makes Key Addition to Virtual Training Center

EXTON, Pa. - April 23, 2013 - PRLog -- Exton, Pa. (April 23, 2013) Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas has selected a fully-integrated audio-visual and software solution for simulation center management. This solution will facilitate confidence development for lifesaving decision-making, helping learners attain diagnostic and procedural competence to improve patient care, and gain experience with cases they may not regularly encounter during their rotations and shifts.

This new solution will be added to the hospital's 35,000 square foot Methodist Institute for Technology, Innovation, and Education (MITIE) virtual training center, which was created to help practicing physicians acquire new high-tech skills and techniques. MITIE incorporates a virtual hospital for recreating high-risk patient care environments, a procedural skills lab for training with models, and fifteen operating rooms for research and technology development.

Barbara Bass, executive director of MITIE, states that until now, there hasn’t been anything like MITIE to provide the nation’s surgeons with consistent, measureable skill training. Methodist Hospital has created the “model” surgical skills laboratory in the nation for learners to hone their abilities and keep up with ever-changing techniques
