SolarCity Honored with ‘Sustainable Business Award’ in Los Angeles

SolarCity Recognized as an Industry Leader by the Sustainable Business Council of Los Angeles (SBCLA)

SAN MATEO, Calif. - April 22, 2013 - PRLog -- LOS ANGELES, April 22, 2013—SolarCity (http://www.solarcity.com)® , a leading provider of clean energy, was chosen as the winner of the Sustainable Business Award by the Sustainable Business Council of Los Angeles (SBCLA (http://www.sustainablebc.org/)) for its outstanding contribution to the region’s green economy. The SBCLA awards recognize environmental industry leaders from the region.

“The SBCLA is shining a light on the fact that it is possible to be sustainable and successful at the same time,” said SolarCity CEO Lyndon Rive. “We share the goal of making clean energy the standard in Southern California.”

Rive spoke on Friday at the Los Angeles Business Council’s Annual Sustainability Summit. SolarCity representatives also spoke on the opportunities provided by cleaner, affordable solar for all of Los Angeles at Earth Day Latino (http://wcvi.org/index.html) weekend on April 20-21 in Los Angeles State Historic Park.

Solar has also become an increasingly valuable source of jobs in Los Angeles. SolarCity alone has two operations centers within the Los Angeles county limits employing more than 175 people. The company runs four large operations centers in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Diego Counties that employs nearly 500 people in the region.  Currently, SolarCity has more than 100 job openings (http://www.solarcity.com/hr/careers.aspx) in Southern California.

More than two-thirds of California solar installations since 2009 have occurred in low and median income neighborhoods, according to California Solar Initiative (CSI (http://www.gosolarcalifornia.ca.gov/csi/index.php)). Los Angeles’ solar adoption has been similarly diverse, as SolarCity’s zero-down (http://www.solarcity.com/residential/solar-panels-cost.aspx) solar financing options put solar electricity within reach of the middle class.

SolarCity has installed solar systems on hundreds of homes, low-income and military housing, municipal, cultural, religious, and sports facilities and numerous educational institutions including the Los Angeles Unified School District (http://www.solarcity.com/pressreleases/140/SolarCity-to-Power-26-Los-Angeles-Unified-School-District-Schools-with-Solar-Energy.aspx) (LAUSD), with 26 schools going solar.

Some of the company’s commercial clients in South California region include multiple U.S. Bank (http://www.solarcity.com/pressreleases/175/U-S--Bank-and-SolarCity-Installing-Solar-Panels-over-Carports-and-Rooftops-at-Select-U-S--Bank-Branches-in-Southern-California.aspx) branches, 70+ Walmart (http://www.solarcity.com/pressreleases/132/Walmart-Unveils-100th-Solar-Installation-in-California.aspx) stores across 33 cities, and SpaceX in Hawthorne.
