Maria Droste Counseling Center Celebrates National Counseling Awareness Month

DENVER - April 22, 2013 - PRLog -- Maria Droste Counseling Center Celebrates National Counseling Awareness Month

Denver, CO – Maria Droste Counseling Center, Colorado’s center for mental health, is pleased to celebrate National Counseling Awareness Month. The American Counseling Association sponsors Counseling Awareness Month in April to educate the public about the role of counselors in helping individuals to live healthier, happier, and more productive lives.

Access to mental health counselors is especially important in Colorado. Advancing Colorado’s Mental Health Care reports that 1.5 million Coloradans need mental health care each year. Maria Droste Counseling Center responds to this need by working with 27 highly skilled private practitioners as well as graduate-level interns to provide the absolute highest quality mental health care to those in need, regardless of their ability to pay.

As a training center, Maria Droste Counseling Center works with dozens of counselors each year to provide them with the proper skills, education, and experience to be effective in the counseling field. Since 1989, over 490 interns have worked with Maria Droste to meet the needs of those individuals and families who would otherwise not be able to obtain counseling services

Linda McKinzie, Executive Director at Maria Droste Counseling Center, said, “Typically, people entering the counseling field regard it as a privilege to do this type of work. It can be extremely challenging and overwhelming at times to work with individuals who have experienced trauma, grief and loss, and other complicated life situations, but it can also be profoundly moving and life-giving.”

Maria Droste Counseling Center is the collaboration of a non-profit organization and the independent practitioners in The Therapist Group. It provides access to mental health care for the underserved and is a training institute for psychotherapists. The therapists have many backgrounds and areas of expertise, including marriage counseling, stress management, grief counseling, addiction counseling, and family therapy. The experienced intake counselors work with potential clients to choose a therapist who will best fit their individual needs.
