Can Perth be an innovative city?

PERTH, Australia - April 21, 2013 - PRLog -- This is the question being posed to the public as part of the City of Perth’s Innovation Month festival and world creativity week. The festival features a variety of performances, creative and innovative ideas. One concept that has caught the attention of organisers is GroupMap Technology.

With its aim to get hundreds of minds contributing, technology is being taken out of the boardroom into to hands of the public. 5 questions including “What makes a city truly innovative” and “What would this city’s transport system look like in 2030?” will be asked, charted in real time and displayed at Northbridge Piazza on the 28th and 29th of April from 11am onwards.

“We would love to get people to tell us what is on their mind, and to think creatively and collaborative.” Says Co-Founder, Jeremy Lu. Their first question has already reached over 100 contributors. “Everyone has the chance to contribute, whether they are passing by or at home.”

What makes GroupMap unique is its ability to gather large amounts of responses and then combine this information to show the results of what the group is thinking, in real time, visually. It will show all the ideas and opinions around each map, which we also hope to share with the Lord Mayor.

The application was recently a finalist in the oZAPP awards where it placed 3rd nationally, and is part of a research project with Curtin, based out of the Innovation Centre of WA.

“I can’t wait to see how creative the people of Perth can get, and what ideas will rise to the top” says Jeremy. The application uses the feedback of the public to decide what is the trending idea. “We’ve posted our questions on our Facebook page and have reached out around the world to share some of the feedback and elicit ideas also.

The remaining questions not related to improving Perth, Western Australia will look for ways to increase creativity, the top 5 dream devices of the future and ranking some of the top movies. To find out more about this audience response system, visit http://www.groupmap.com.
