MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - April 21, 2013 - PRLog -- Purchasing a yacht can be a stressful experience if you do not have the necessary knowledge or assistance from an experienced yacht broker. However, with the right advice and the proper preparation, you can be sure to select the yacht that is right for you with minimal stress and frustration. According to Katja Kukovic, Executive Director of Charters for Worldwide Boat, there are only four steps to finding a yacht to fit your needs.

Step One

The first step, she says, requires that you “determine your tastes and preferences in a yacht. Examine characteristics that you find enjoyable and uncover those you dislike.” To narrow down your preferences, ask yourself the following:

• Do I want a motor yacht or a sail boat?

• What length would I prefer? Does my preferred mooring have size constraints that I must take into account?

• Which yacht exteriors do I like most? What about the interior design?

• How many guests will I want to accommodate?

• Is there a cabin layout that I like?

• Will I have a crew? How many?

• What range would I need?

• What amenities, tenders, or toys would I like?

• Will I offer charters?

• Would I like a new build or a pre-owned yacht?

• What is my budget?

These questions will help you narrow down your choices and assist your broker in finding the best yacht for your needs.

Step Two

Next your broker can begin the search for your yacht. The brokers at Worldwide Boat, for instance, take advantage of their wide array of personal connections along with an extensive database to meet or exceed clients’ expectations.

Step Three

Upon locating the yacht for sale that meets your specifications, your broker will then arrange sea trials and surveys. It is best to use a broker for this step in order to handle the negotiations and deal with the legal, mechanical, and technical aspects of the process. Since your broker works for you, he or she will ensure that you get the best deal on a sea-worthy yacht. A broker’s only interest is in your satisfaction, not in the seller’s profit.

Step Four

While many brokers leave you after the sale, Worldwide Boat “will stand by you long after the deal is complete,” states Kukovic. Brokers become lifelong yachting friends, who assist with questions, offer destination advice, and can help with all aspects of chartering if you pursue that route.
