Sir Richard Branson Reveals his Plans of Charity

April 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Sir Richard Branson has become one of the most recent billionaires who have signed the pledge committing to the public that he will be donating a large fraction of his fortune for philanthropic causes. It is quite interesting to see how billionaires of nationalities other than Americans are also becoming a part of this noble trend.

Sir Richard Branson is known to be the founder of the Virgin Group of Industries, and is counted among the five richest people of England. The British businessman and many other billionaires like Vladimir Potanin or Russia, Azim Premji of India and Hasso Plattner of Germany, accompanied by their spouses made commitments to the public and states that they will be contributing to philanthropic causes with significant proportions of their fortunes.

The Giving Pledge that is being signed by these billionaires was established by Microsoft’s co-founder Bill Gates, who was accompanied by investor Warren Buffet. The Financial Times quoted Gates as saying “A lot were going to do it anyway but the pledge creates more of a movement, makes people do it earlier, collaborate and do it smarter.”

More than 92 of the pledge’s current associates are Americans, and Gates is now focussing on drawing the attention of non-Americans too, Sir Richard Branson being a part of it. The pledge has been able to raise a sum of more than $500 billion, which will all be used for philanthropic causes.

Sir Richard Branson also stated that although his children Holly and Sam would be the prime heirs to his fortune, they have agreed to their father’s noble decision. He also urged his children to take significant parts in his business.
