By: Titus Contracting “The great thing about home remodeling is that for many, it ushers in a whole new beginning for most people,” said Scott Rajavuori, design manager of Titus Contracting, a home and commercial remodeling company based in Savage, Minn. “Spring is a season of rebirth, so remodeling your home is a great way to reinvent or improve upon your personal life.” However, the downfall for many home remodeling projects, Rajavuori said, is when homeowners begin to get carried away and don’t wisely use their budget. “It’s important that whatever home improvement project you decide to go with that you come up with a plan,” Rajavuori said. “After all, how can you go forward with work if you’re not sure what the final goal is?” Rajavuori said having clear goals also allows one to plan a budget and schedule, and “this will help to keep your eye on the prize, so to speak, and to remind you of the project’s limitations.” To avoid ruining home renovation plans, the Titus Contracting team offers the following tips for homeowners: Know your available space “Before you can lay out a budget or project timeframe, you need to be aware of how much space you’ll be working on,” Rajavuori said. “This will allow you to have a more attainable plan for the design process. Another thing you can do is to prioritize what rooms you would like to remodel in a list. Being able to put together this hierarchy should help you to break down the work into expect costs and time.” Put together a firm budget “If you can’t afford to buy new furniture or appliances, then it doesn’t make sense to try to do these things,” said Rajavuori said. “You have to do what you can afford to, and not end up tying up all your finances into a remodel. If you’re thinking of taking out a loan or mortgage in order to finance the work, make sure you will be able to pay it back.” Set deadlines “You don’t want to get halfway through the season and realize the project is not near completion,” About Titus Contracting: End
