Energy Efficiency Stars scheme launches

Award scheme recognises and assists SMEs seeking to cut costs through improving energy efficiency

FULHAM, U.K. - April 22, 2013 - PRLog -- E2B and Depower, the energy saving experts, have launched the Energy Efficiency Stars scheme, which recognises and supports small and medium enterprises (SMEs) seeking to save cash and carbon through improving their energy efficiency.

The scheme follows on from the popular National Recycling Stars scheme which E2B has been running for over two years and has been adopted by around 200 businesses. The Energy Efficiency Stars scheme comes at an opportune time, given the rise in energy costs driven by declining UK oil and gas production and the £200 billion in investment required by the country’s power sector.

Research from the Carbon Trust indicates that SMEs can on average reduce their energy usage by 20 per cent, compared with the eight per cent seen for large businesses. By providing advice on best practices and showcasing achievements, the Energy Efficiency Stars scheme will help the UK realise this potential.

John Halfpenny, Energy Consultant at Depower, says: “Depower is delighted to be helping UK businesses to save energy, money and carbon. We aim to recognise, guide and reward companies that actively save energy – from those taking their first steps all the way up to those that have a great track record and want to do more.”

The scheme puts the spotlight on companies that deliver on-going improvements in their energy efficiency. Only firms that do so are eligible for the Gold Award, the scheme’s highest accolade.
