BLACKPOOL, U.K. - April 18, 2013 - PRLog -- Garden centres have been left in the cold as trade is predicted to be down by as much 20% in the crucial spring period, a garden industry group has claimed. As the region suffered the sixth coldest March on record, local Garden Centre businesses have been badly affected by the conditions, with sales down as much as 90% over the past weekend.

“Like many other local businesses in the area” comments Wayne Simmons, Manager of local design & print company *Spot On Print Shop “Garden Centres are trying to recover business after an extremely difficult start to the year. Our business,” he added “is to provide our retail customers with the very best printed marketing material to raise awareness with consumers and increase footfall”

Plant sales at Easter seem to be about 60 or 70% down and whereas people last year were thinking of barbeques and gardening furniture and all the summer items, this year their thinking of woollen socks and snow shovels! Even Gardeners at allotments nearby are battling to cultivate any crops or flowers. Many have been unable to do anything on their allotments at all and many plants that were put in like potatoes for instance in mid-March would be expected to be flourishing by now, but for the moment, there's absolutely no sign of them!

“One of the most effective ways of reminding customers about the wide range of other products and services available at Garden Centres” adds Wayne “is to distribute Leaflets, Postcards or Newsletters to your customer data base packed with incentives such as ‘A Free Coffee/Tea refill’ for example at your café and news of new gift products, special ‘early bird’ offers and even discount vouchers”

Garden Centres and Retailers take note! If you can get people out of their armchairs and away from the telly with promotion of news, offers, incentives and ‘extra’ services then you can compete against  the Great British weather and win!
