Follow on Google News | Trends in hospitality market are reflected in TISSL's positive trading results for 2012.Hospitality EPoS solutions provider TISSL records 25% turnover uplift and 30% growth in client numbers. MD Kevin Coetzee analyses the market sectors where growth came from last year and how this reflects trends within today’s industry.
By: TISSL Limited Coetzee explains that the sectors where TISSL experienced most growth were pubs and hotels. “We saw a big boost in pub activity, especially from gastropubs looking for systems suitable to support their increased emphasis on food. We also witnessed a big jump in our hotel sector activity, especially working with boutique hotels. We continue to do well with fine-dining clients but gastropub, ethnic cuisine and casual dining were the most buoyant sectors for us last year.” In terms of a geographic spread, most 2012 growth came from central London, the Home Counties and from a northern belt of cities such as Liverpool, Chester and Leeds. “It was particularly heartening to see that some areas that have not yet weathered the recession are nevertheless investing in technology to improve their business.” In 2012, TISSL worked with many start-up ventures where chefs or managers had had experience of using its EPoS solution elsewhere. Some came into the market from outside; others were experienced players who extended their use of TISSL across operating groups. “Lots of reference selling took place,” says Kevin Coetzee. “Having once used our system, we find more and more people recommending it or taking it with them to their new ventures.” In some cases, acquiring TISSL represented the first time a business had invested in EPoS; in others, TISSL displaced an incumbent EPoS system. “Poor support, lack of flexibility, the need for a food-led EPoS solution; all these were reasons quoted to us by customers who came to us for something more advanced.” TISSL also found that a greater proportion of EPoS clients, both new and existing, purchased ancillary software in 2012 and there was a stronger take-up of new technologies than in previous years. Hospitality businesses increasingly looking for an integrated solution opted for handhelds and tablet PCs as mobile POS devices, together with integrated diary management, stock management and kitchen display systems. “This trend was huge last year,” comments Coetzee. “50% or more of clients bought at least one third-party interface, the most common being our integration with dining reservations or stock management systems. Approximately 30% of hotel clients opted for integration with their property management system. Overall, I would estimate that more than 30% of our clients purchased handhelds or tablets to supplement their traditional, fixed-point EPoS.” Concludes Kevin Coetzee: “Across the hospitality industry, we’re seeing technology playing an increasing important role.
