Yes, There is a Tree Service Standard of Care!

From the guy with a chainsaw and pickup truck to professional commercial tree service companies, there are a wide variety of tree care options available. How do you know if you or your client received tree industry pruning care for your tree assets?

SAN DIEGO - April 17, 2013 - PRLog -- There are a wide variety of tree service companies and they are not all the same.  While most tree service companies have the large truck(s) with a mechanical lift bucket and chipping machine, the level of arboriculture tree care knowledge, experience and training may vary drastically between companies.

Whether commercial, residential, government jurisdiction or recreational facility property owners may have a duty of care to protect the public from known, foreseeable tree hazards.  When a property owner fails to protect the public from a foreseeable hazard that later results in an accident, the owner may find themselves in a lawsuit.

Most property owners seek out professional tree care service to pro-actively maintain their tree assets.  In some instances, a certified arborist is used as a tree consultant to provide tree health or risk assessment inspection. A certified arborist will provide a comprehensive arborist report, identifying the risk factors and mitigation procedures.  The owner can use this information to bid out the tree service work.

Owners also use tree service service contractors as both a consultant to provide a report, and as the contractor to perform the specified work.  This may lead to a conflict of interest if the company uses a certified arborist as a consultant and sales representative.

How do you know if the tree care service is reputable?  Are you sure your trees have received or will receive the proper industry standard of care they deserve?

Have you entered into a lawsuit due to poor tree pruning?  If you answered yes to any of the above, you should be aware there are arboriculture industry standards for professional tree care companies.  The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A300 pruning standards apply to care of trees and woody ornamental shrubs.  These standards should be incorporated into the contract proposal from a tree care service.
