Follow on Google News | CALL TO VISUAL ARTISTS neXt gallery – Pop-Up Art Gallery ProgramThe St Charles Arts Council (St. Charles, IL) is sponsoring the “next” neXt gallery (a Pop Up Art Gallery program), which will open Saturday, June 15 and run through Saturday July 13, 2013. Artists are invited to submit their work.
1. Existing in or belonging to one by nature; innate: native ability. 2. Being such by birth or origin: e.g. a native Scot. 3. Being one's own because of the place or circumstances of one's birth: e.g. our native land. 4. Originating, growing, or produced in a certain place/region; 5. a. Being a member of the original inhabitants of a particular place. b. Of, belonging to, or characteristic of such inhabitants: 6. Occurring in nature pure or uncombined with other substances: e.g. native copper. 7. Natural; unaffected: e.g. native beauty. 8. a. One born in or connected with a place by birth: e.g. a native of Scotland now living in the U. S. b. One of the original inhabitants or lifelong residents of a place. 9. An animal or plant that originated in a particular place or region. Submissions: Please review the instructions below for submitting your entry. There is no form to fill out. Please send the requested information and the images of your work electronically to ArtistLiaison@ Format: Juried – Jury Fee $15 total, regardless of the number of pieces submitted. (Fee is nonrefundable) neXt gallery Celebrates Ëkwabet’s 25th Birthday will feature Native American visual art to showcase both the heritage of Native American art, as well as its presence and relevance in 21st century America. In addition, the gallery will include the work of artists who wish to submit their work for jurying, with the theme "Native". The gallery will be in 228 W. Main Street, St. Charles, IL – which is on the northeast corner of N. 3rd Street and Route 64 in downtown St. Charles. We are pleased to announce that Meg Bero, the Executive Director of the Schingoethe Museum for Native American Cultures at Aurora University (Aurora, IL) will be our guest curator. Ms. Bero and the Schingoethe Center have won Awards of Excellence in Exhibitions from Illinois Association of Museums, Awards of Superior Achievement from the Illinois Association of Museums, and the Illinois State Historical Society. SUBMISSIONS: Number of artists: Minimum – 10, Maximum – 40 Number of pieces of art per artist: Minimum – 1, Maximum – 7 Images for Jurying: If you wish to submit an entry, please send, via email, jpg images of the artwork that you would like to enter in the gallery/show. Each image should be 500 KB or less in size for ease of sending, receiving, and jurying. Artists will be notified of the jury’s selection on or by May 24, 2013 Receipt of work - week of June 10 - specific days/times to follow Gallery will be open: June 15, 2013 to July 13, 2013 Opening Reception: Saturday, June 15 EXHIBITION/SALE DETAILS: The gallery will be staffed by volunteers and artists. It is not mandatory for artists to staff the gallery, but it is strongly encouraged. We strive to have the gallery open during standard retail hours. The artwork will be in the gallery on consignment. The artist exhibition fee is $40. The St Charles Arts Council is a 501c3 Public Charity, and so cannot take a commission on artwork sold. The artist will receive 100% of the selling price of their work. Illinois state sales tax will be collected, and will be the responsibility of the artist to pay to the State. The SCAC has liability insurance to cover the insurance value of the art in the gallery. All artwork must be ready to hang/install. Sculpture pedestals/stands must be provided by the artist. All artwork must be for sale. Delivery and pick-up of the artwork will be the artists' responsibility. There is a comprehensive promotional plan for the gallery that includes a p.r. campaign, a social media campaign, and cross promotional opportunities with local retailers, restaurants, and arts organizations/ About the St Charles Arts Council: The St Charles Arts Council is a 501(c)(3), registered not-for-profit Illinois corporation whose mission is to create an organization that serves and promotes the arts and cultural activities in St. Charles, to the mutual benefit of the arts and the community. The SCAC is staffed entirely by volunteers. About the Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures: The Schingoethe Center serves both as the University’s museum of Native American culture and as a setting for research and teaching related to the study of cultural artifacts and related texts. With a primary responsibility to enrich the teaching and learning experience of Aurora University students and faculty, the Center also serves as an important resource for area schools and colleges, researchers, native American groups, and the general public.
