The shipment arrival information to the destination ports often reaches very late, which makes it difficult for the Port and its stakeholders to plan their operations in advance. Also after shipment arrival, the stakeholders performing different activities often remain disconnected and execute their operations in isolation. Both these factors combined together decreases port efficiency and increases the time required to release the shipment. In sea freight, the lead time varies from 15 to 45 days from the on board of shipment to the cargo reaching to the consignee. Out of which 4 days are taken in the port, 2 days at the origin and 2 days at the destination. If pre-shipment arrival information is available at the destination port as soon as it leaves the origin and/or transshipment port, the stakeholders will have significant amount of time to plan their operations and be better prepared to receive and release the shipment. This will not only increase port efficiency but will also establish connectivity between origin and destination ports. However, timely availability of information and to the desired audience is possible only if all the stakeholders are connected through a collaborative information sharing portal where each and every party can login and update or access the required data.
