COMPLICIT, the untold story of why the Roosevelt Administration denied safe haven to Jewish refugees, premieres on May 6, 2013 at the Movies of Delray in Delray Beach, Florida. Following the premiere additional showings will be at Movies in Delray on May 8, 20, 22 and at Movies of Lake Worth on May 23. The new documentary film explores the impact of the WWII Jewish refugee issue on the Roosevelt legacy through a mythical courtroom drama that puts Franklin D Roosevelt on trial for complicity in Crimes Against Humanity. COMPLICIT includes never before seen footage of US Special Envoy for Global Anti-Semitism Hannah Rosenthal's powerful expose of America's inadequate response to the Jewish Refugee crisis. The film includes footage of the 2012 US State Department ceremony in which Deputy Secretary of State William Burns makes the first ever apology to a delegation of surviving passengers from the refugee ship, SS St Louis before a delegation of higth ranking diplomats and foreign service officers. Herb Karliner, surviving passenger, will attend the premiere of the film on May 6 at movies of Delray and will participate along with Execute Director, Robert Krakow, and Associate Director, Ruth Ann Kalish, in the discussion and analysis to follow the showing of the film. COMPLICIT integrates painful history with compelling drama.
The film is a production of the SS St Louis Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit 501C3. The Foundation is dedicated to education through drama on issues of human rights, anti-Semitism, immigration and the fight against genocide. The Foundation uses education through drama to educate multi-generation audiences about signal events in world history, including the story of the voyage of the SS St Louis.
