Stash That Picture: Another Pinterest for Men Launches

Stasham Aims to be the No. 1 Social Men’s Lifestyle Site on the Web.

BROWNSVILLE, Texas - April 16, 2013 - PRLog -- On your first visit to Stasham, users might find a few familiar things. Tiled layout, shared content based on pictures by users, etc. But it’s clear that Stasham caters to a different crowd entirely. On Stasham you’ll find pictures and links to tattoos, machines, door handles modded to look like guns, Bugs Bunny cartoons, and of course, a bacon-topped donut. In other words, this is a site more focused on manly things.

“We see ourselves as more of a complement to Pinterest,” says founder Miguel Collis.

“Pinterest is a site that lets you grab everything,” added Miguel. “At Stasham we’re focused on a particular set of content. We’ll never have that big of a user base, but users of our site will get a very targeted curated set of content. We like to think of Stasham as a social men’s lifestyle magazine run by its users.”

Stasham features all of the familiar functions of any typical social network complete with user following and commenting. The site offers a scrolling tile mosaic layout, with images that are stashed by users. Viewers can re-stash, and click through to the original source. There’s even an installable browser button to enable stashing of pictures across the Web. All images are tagged and categorized, occasionally by the zealous community member. Future updates will include a social commerce feature. Stasham plans to roll out this functionality which will allow users to buy products from partnered brands in the form a affiliate links.

For the first time in history there are more males shopping online than women and they are outspending by 20-30 percent per online transaction. Narrow this down to what comScore classifies as affluent men, and reports say that 98 percent shop online once per year, and 67 percent do so multiple times per month. Further, in the first half of 2012, sales of men’s apparel grew 8.26 percent, the largest increase seen in the category in decades.

Stasham is betting that men will continue to spend money online. What remains is to determined what they want and how to keep them coming back. On Stasham, that will largely come down to audience curation, with select promoted products interspersed by the company.

While Stasham may seem a testosterone fun fest, the website does not discriminate to its female counterparts. In fact, One thing that’s users will find pleasant about the site  is that there’s a distinct lack of pictures of scantily-clad women, which you might expect on a site geared for guys.

“We want Stasham to be a place that many people can enjoy and take our stance on objectifying women very seriously,” says Miguel. “To maintain the site free from stereotypes and clean for everyone to enjoy this is a must for us.
