The 2014 Mazda6 Received Top Safety Pick+ Award

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has awarded Mazda's new sedan with their highest safety rating.

BRADENTON, Fla. - April 15, 2013 - PRLog -- It gives the team at Cox Mazda in Bradenton (http://www.coxmazda.com/) great pride to announce that the 2014 Mazda6 has just earned the highest safety designation available from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS): Top Safety Pick+.

Available now at Cox Mazda, the 2014 Mazda6 is the first vehicle from the automaker to earn these new safety accolades. This new and more demanding classification required that the Mazda6 receive a rating of no less than “good” on frontal moderate overlap, roof, side, and head restraint evaluations as well as an “acceptable” or better on the IIHS's new “small overlap test.”

The fact that Mazda has earned this impressive designation is testament to their ability to create a vehicle that is not only incredibly safe but also designed to be fun to drive.

Sporting Mazda's new SKYACTIV technology in the chassis, body, engine, and transmission, the Mazda6 represents the latest in automotive engineering advances working together to improve performance and fuel economy.

More than just a retooled engine or a redesigned transmission, SKYACTIV works to rethink the way automobiles are built, from the ground up. The body of the Mazda6 is built with 58 percent high-tensile steel, and the chassis weighs less than many other auto platforms, leading to smoother handling and a more responsive driving experience.

Some of the safety features that come standard on the new Mazda6 (http://www.coxmazda.com/new-vehicles?view=&Min_Miles=...) that likely contributed toward its Top Safety Pick+ award include:

•          Six airbags

•         Anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution

•         Whiplash-reducing headrests

•         Tire pressure monitoring system

•         Daytime running lights

Mazda is no stranger to the IIHS, with the 2014 Mazda CX-5 and 2013 Mazda3 having earned Top Safety Pick designations from the organization. Both of these vehicles were tested before the Top Safety Pick+ and small overlap test were implemented.
