STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - April 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Monday, April 15 at 7 p.m., The State Theatre presents An Evening With Author Sandra Cisneros, which is co-sponsored by the Center for American Literary Studies and Centre County Reads. Join in for an evening of discussion with this prize-winning author, best known for her novels Caramelo and The House on Mango Street. Continuing the “Start at The State” Play Reading Series, held in The Attic, is Passover at the Rothschilds Tuesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. The play proposes a scenario for the contact between the emissaries of the South and the London branch of the House of Rothschild during the Civil War. It was written by local playwright Gil Abert.

Adding a bit of levity to the week, Breakup at a Wedding will be screened Thursday, April 18 at 7 p.m. This romantic comedy film covers the misadventures of a couple that breaks up the night of their rehearsal dinner and decides to fake their wedding to save face, and it’s all caught on tape by their wedding videographer. After the screening, join real-life husband and wife filmmaking duo Victor Quinaz and Anna Martemucci, a Penn State graduate and State College local, for a question and answer period.

State Theatre’s children’s programming continues with Frindle, an educational theatre piece for elementary-aged children based on the best-selling book Frindle. Frindle is slated for April 19 at 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. This show details fifth-grader Nick Allen’s invention of a new word “frindle” which spreads like wildfire. It is perfect for inspiring students to think creatively and shares the power words can have.

Later on Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m., Whiplash, a student dance group will hold their end-of-year performance that is free to the public and showcases a variety of dance styles as well as special guests. Routines that may be of special interest to attendees include Whiplash’s Homecoming and THON routines, as well as many other self-choreographed dances that include a broad range of dance styles.  Hip-hop, tap, jazz, lyrical, and contemporary will all be incorporated into their presentation.

Rounding out the week, State High’s Finest Singer Songwriters will be at The State Theatre Sunday, April 21 at 7 p.m. performing original music in The Attic.

Finally, The State Theatre presents The Complete World of Sports (abridged) by the Reduced Shakespeare Company. This unique, interactive comedic performance reduces every sport ever played on every continent in the entire history of the world at record-breaking speed. It’s a marathon of madness and mayhem as the world’s great sporting events are shrunk to theatrical size.
