ENCINITAS, Calif. - April 15, 2013 - PRLog -- (Encinitas, CA) Cancer treatment in non-academic, community settings is an important part of overall cancer care in the US. The experience gained from community oncology practice is used to inform the development of novel treatment pathways and new treatment options, as well as improve the duration and quality of life for cancer patients and our understanding of cancer biology and biological consequences of cancer treatment. The department of public health and policy studies at Saint Katherine College will operate the Community Oncology Research Consortium (CORC).  CORC will conduct original research and publish studies related to the practice of oncology in community settings. CORC is comprised of over 600 oncologists throughout the US. Dr Frank Papatheofanis chairs CORC; the Consortium will bring innumerable opportunities to College students interested in clinical research, research methods, and cancer care.

“We think the Consortium will be a means for deriving cutting-edge information about the care of patients with cancer,” commented Papatheofanis. “This is an excellent opportunity for students in public health and policy studies at the College to work with original data and conduct research alongside knowledgeable, experienced investigators.”
