Texas Legend Golden Chick to Open its First Restaurant in South Carolina

SUMTER, S.C. - April 15, 2013 - PRLog -- (Dallas, Texas) April 15, 2013 – For the last 50 years, Texans have savored the signature taste of Golden Chick’s Original Golden Tenders . The long-standing chicken chain with a loyal cult following currently has 108 locations throughout Texas and Oklahoma, plus a growing handful in the Middle East and Asia. This spring, however, South Carolina will get its first taste of the world’s best chicken in Sumter, S.C.

Franchisee and Sumter native Corey Wright is counting the days until his restaurant opens in April at 807 Broad Street near the Gamecock Lanes bowling alley. The brand new building will feature modern brick, stacked stone, bold yellow awnings, and a covered front patio for sunny days.

“So many restaurants in Sumter just serve fried food, but Golden Chick is different because of both the amazing taste and healthy options. The roast chicken is out of this world and our salads, fruit, and green beans deliver big on taste. This is wonderful food I am proud to bring to Sumter,” said Wright.

Menu choices include Original Golden Tenders , Golden Roast Chicken, catfish and salad options for a healthier meal. Sides include battered French fries, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn on the cob, fried okra, dirty rice, mac and cheese, cole slaw, potato salad, and fruit salad.

Extras include jalapeno poppers, corn nuggets, gourmet chicken salad, or the restaurant’s famous yeast rolls. As a special touch, serving staff often come through the dining room to offer diners an extra yeast roll for free. Sumter’s Golden Chick will also offer all the free self serve ice cream cones guests can eat.

The restaurant will bring between 40 and 50 part time and full time jobs to town. Wright is interested in hiring both students looking for a part time job as well as people who want full time work that could one day lead to a managerial role.

Enriching the area with fresh career opportunities is a cause Wright is passionate about. Wright, an involved member of New Bethel Baptist Church, regularly helps feed the homeless and participates in a mentorship program that teaches high school students about entrepreneurship and ways to achieve business success.

Golden Chick, Wright says, will provide another avenue to mentor, fuel the local economy, and help others on the road to success. He hopes to open up to ten more restaurants over the next decade, which will generate even more jobs and opportunities to train general managers and perhaps inspire others to open their own restaurants.

“Golden Chick is a special restaurant that takes extra steps to make everyone feel welcome. We walk around the dining room to offer guests an extra yeast roll, and we will gladly substitute combo drinks for another side item or let guests choose their favorite piece of chicken. It’s all part of an attitude of making everyone feel special and contributing to the community. I look forward to serving Sumter and delivering the best chicken around,” said Wright.
