LEWISTON, Australia - April 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Andrew Dezsery M.Sc, founder and principal of #1Aquaponics recently discussed with ABC Radio the instability of food production in Australia and the consequences the next generations will face as more and more farmers leave the land and switch to industries such as “mining the land” which now pays their weekly bills.

Food production in Australia has always been the backbone of this country with wool and wheat farming generations paving the way for our lifestyle today. Other countries are envious of our status on a global scale with both a clean, green environment and plenty of space to move around with an awesome lifestyle that even some of our social and economic unemployed status prefer to entertain.

The ease of picking up daily requirements for sustenance and more is available at any of the big box stores and the huge range on offer of the same product can send the purchaser into chaos. Once just a potato, the humble spud now comes in various shapes, sizes, cooked, powdered , crisped or raw, imported, local or if you’re lucky…just like grandpa used to have in the backyard.

Andrew said, “Growing food at home again like Grandpa used to do doesn’t have to be hard. In fact, when you can get even kids to now grow food at home but you can’t get them to make their beds; you know you’re on a good thing.  Aquaponics has literally helped thousands of families get back to making food in their own back yard” he said, “even if the soil is no good, doesn’t hold water or you have concrete and asphalt all the way to the back fence. Growing fish and vegetables in a symbiotic fashion just like nature intended and using no additional fertilizers, chemicals and harsh pesticides has always been a reality. It just took someone who bothered to stop taking the easy method of buying a product in packets to share their experiences that would make aquaponics a buzz word of this early century.”

Since 1996, Andrew has been sharing the virtues of aquaponics to thousands through lectures, courses, videos and now, with hundreds even thousands of fellow advocates, the news has spread to countries that don’t even have the media technologies we take for granted today.

With the Loxton Aquaponic Training Facility program coming to a close in July 2013, tens of farmers and novices have now learnt the opportunities of aquaponics to feed communities through integration farming methods. Three farmers in the Riverland have now taken on the new technology and have found that it can work for them on a small scale commercial manner.

A workshop on Saturday the 13th of July, 2013 will cover the subjects of aquaponics such as the what & where, disease issues and remedies, fish handling, environmental requirements and future licensing, bio pest control, plant husbandry, solar power opportunities, taking the next level to commercial production, developing market strategies for farmers markets and much more will be covered by qualified professional trainers, veterinarians, industry personnel, Gov. extension officers, and private enterprise.

The beautiful Wirrina Cove will be the backdrop for the workshop in July which will be run at the Wirrina Cove Resort on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. There will be morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea provided and the cost includes one night’s accommodation at the resort if required. An 18 hole, world class, golf course is available for those wishing to hit the long stroke.  Workshop participants even receive a home study course as part of the package for those not quite up to speed with note taking and there will be plenty of opportunity to buy a bargain with product discounts.

Andrew said, ” We are even giving away one of our small home systems to a lucky participant which is valued at $1350.00 but you have to be there to learn if you want to win it.”

The workshop  can be booked NOW on line at http://www.1aquaponics.com.au/aquaponic-1-day-workshop/ with an early bird special available till the end of April 2013 or call the office direct on 0863655404 and book and pay your tickets NOW.  LIMITED SEATS AVAILABLE!
