Follow on Google News | Encinitas Guitar Orchestra to Perform Concert May 17The Encinitas Guitar Orchestra, a community orchestra of acoustic and classical guitarists, will perform its next concert at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2013. The concert will feature folk music from around the world.
By: Margolin & Associates The orchestra ensemble includes 25 beginning to advanced guitarists, guest professionals Anna Stearns on oboe and allan Phillips on keyboard and percussion. The Encinitas Guitar Orchestra will perform a variety of folk music from all coeners of the globe, including Sakura (Japan), Afro Cuban Lullaby (Caribbean), Bula Maleya (fiji), the Banana Boat Song (Haiti), a high percussive piece called Kalimba (Africa), and more. Additionally, the evening will feature music performed by soloists and small group ensembles. The orchestra is comprised of local guitarists from beginning through advanced levels who learn technique, musicianship and theory under the direction of Peter Pupping and assistant conductor William Wilson.
