PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago - April 12, 2013 - PRLog -- Port of Spain, Trinidad - April 09, 2013: The Lord Kitchener (Aldwyn Roberts) Auditorium will reopen its doors to the public with a spectacular joint performance from the University of the West Indies (UWI) Arts Chorale and UWI Percussion, on Saturday 13 April 2013, at the National Academy for the Performing Arts, Port of Spain.

For the past four months the auditorium had been closed to facilitate the renovation of its world class stage. Since it began functioning some four years ago, the space has been host to numerous local and international performances and, as such, the stage area eventually required considerable maintenance and restorative work. Expertly undertaken by the Shanghai Construction Company - the group charged with the auditorium’s original construction in 2009 - the works have now been completed and the auditorium is open once again for bookings.

Getting things started with the first performance of the year on the newly renovated stage are the UWI Arts Chorale and the UWI Percussion production featuring a concert in two acts. : the first act , a joint performance with the UWI Percussion, the University of Delaware percussion ensemble and the UWI African drumming ensemble; the second act is a performance of the Carl Orff Choral/ Orchestra work – “Carmina Burana”

The Department of Creative and Festival Arts is delighted to partner with the Lord Kitchener (Aldywn Roberts) Auditorium to present the monumental work “Carmina Burana”, said Jessel Murray, music director and conductor.

“It’s also the first time that this production is being staged in its entirety in Trinidad & Tobago with the addition of UWI Steel ensemble”, he ended.
