Medical Missions for Children Hosts April 19th International Medical Conference to Address Impact of Digital Media on Child Development

PATERSON, N.J. - April 12, 2013 - PRLog -- Medical Missions for Children (MMC), a Paterson, NJ based non-profit focused on improving the quality of medical treatment and outcomes provided to critically-ill children throughout the world, today announced its plans to host a virtual international medical conference on the critical topic of the “Impact of Digital Media on Child and Adolescent Development”.  This groundbreaking event is scheduled to take place on April 19th at the MMC-Panasonic HDTV Studios located on the campus of St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, NJ.

Using high-definition video production technology (provided by Panasonic) and high-definition videoconferencing equipment (provided by Polycom), MMC will create a two-way interactive exchange of ideas and case studies between a panel of child development experts from several of our nation’s leading academic institutions  and more than 100 pediatricians in attendance from the country of Armenia.  The digital technologies that represent the focal point of this two-hour conference include: Television, Video Games, Tablet Computers/Cell Phones, Social Media Sites and other Internet-based communications platforms.

The conference will be moderated by former WCBS and WNBC correspondent, Aimee Nuzzo.  Guest expert panelists include: (1) Director of Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, Angela Diaz, MD, (2) Child and Adolescent Psychologist, Resa Fogel, Ph.D., (3) Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical College, Jodi Gold, MD, (4) Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Daniel Medeiros, MD, and (5) Psychologist, Mark Pesner, Ph.D.

This cross-cultural event, as well as the production and transmission technologies being used, represents a level of sophistication and medical exchange not previously experienced by either U.S.-based experts or the members of the Armenian pediatric medical community involved.  For this (and all future) special events in Armenia, MMC has installed Polycom’s HDX 8000 Series of high-definition telepresence equipment at the National Institute of Child and Adolescent Health located in Yerevan, Armenia.

Members of the Media are welcome to attend this first-of-its-kind production event, which is scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM (ET) on Friday, April 19th.  The MMC-Panasonic HDTV Studios are located at 35 Getty Avenue, Building 400 in Paterson, New Jersey. Directions to the studio are available at www.mmissions.org.  This virtual medical conference is made possible through the generosity of the Richard Davoud Donchian Foundation, Polycom and Panasonic.
