The Amateur Basketball Syndicate (ABS) is a Not-for-profit boy’s youth basketball league created through high-level organizational talks and initiatives. The ABS is Canada’s largest, competitive boy’s youth basketball league, launching its first season of play in 2012-13. In September 2012, cities from across the GTA and beyond including Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Scarborough, Hamilton, Durham, and Kitchener/Waterloo, with support from Oakville and Toronto took part in a meeting of core member franchises to discuss a formal league creation. The hope is to revitalize youth basketball in order to take basketball in Ontario to the next level. The League format was the start of a plan to provide an opportunity to a traditionally underserviced boy’s basketball constituency with the chance to compete in the start of a Province-wide league.
