Indian Special Forces - History and Future

NEW DELHI - April 11, 2013 - PRLog -- Historically, Indian Special Forces have been used for direct action type of roles during conventional wars. The hierarchical understanding of trans-border employment of Special Forces in India is short distanced physical or direct type of actions executed on a unit/sub-unit basis to achieve battlefield victories.  In India the Employment till now of our nascent Special Forces have been analysed including whether our Special Forces have actually been employed or used as Special Forces or primarily used in counter insurgency operations for which we have any number of other units available.

A new book titled " India's Special Forces- History and Future of Special Forces" authored by Lt Gen P C Katoch (Retd) a Special Forces officer himself and Saikat Datta a Journalist specialising in Special Forces brings out whether a rare resource like Special Forces should or should not be employed for such missions that can be performed by a host of other groups. In the backdrop of 21st Century threats, what should be the Special Forces structure in India, their concept of employment and doctrine?
