CALABASAS, Calif. - April 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Sarahlynne Davis, MEd, is a long-time teacher and parenting guru and, now, the author of, Making Kid Time Count for Ages 0-3: The Attentive Parent Advantage.  Her book is a comprehensive parenting guide that describes how to care for a newborn or toddler in ways that will ensure they grow up with strong cognitive, social and emotional development.  A secure and loving foundation from birth will offer them the best growth opportunities to make sure they are healthy, happy and developmentally on track for years to come.

This guide book is heavily researched, parent tested, and very well written.  It is part of the Lesson Ladder.com What Now Series on parenting.  Each chapter flows in a natural sequence.  It, lovingly, explains the importance of each stage of a baby’s life during this delicate period, from 0-3 years old.  And, each chapter has a parent-friendly overview of key child development information and fun activities children will love.  There are also tips for developing strong parent-child relationships using the four essential elements: time, connection, interaction and play.

Chapters one through three describe in detail what happens cognitively and emotionally as a newborn grows and how they need strong and consistent caregivers, positive experiences with them and a predictable environment during their first years of life.  The people in a baby’s life should act loving, kind and very respectful of a child’s developmental needs.  Early on, bonding and socialization are just as important as food to a baby.  And, there is no chance of spoiling a child in their first six months of life.  This means a baby should get immediate attention when they make a fuss or cry.  As an infant grows, their physical, motor and sensory experiences need to grow also.  Each chapter ends with a list of activities that supports the child’s growth stage.

Chapters four through seven concentrate on language and literacy development and why creative play is so necessary.  Kids learn faster if parents talk and read to them from the beginning.  It is important to ask questions, be expressive and get on the toddler’s level so they can see your lips move.  When you read, read with inflection, even to infants at four months old.  Infants who are read too will increase their vocabulary by 40% more when they are older.  Play activities also stimulate cognitive, emotional and physical development while sparking the child’s imagination.  They use all their senses to create the difficult circumstances of their pretend worlds.  Since they also create the rules of this world they can figure out how to master it and gain confidence while doing so.

Chapter eight expands on the benefits of exposing a child to the wonders of nature.  Experiences in nature can improve their attention and focus and inspires vast creativity.  In chapter nine we learn that children under 2 years do not need and do not benefit from technology, in fact television may be detrimental to them as it can over-stimulate their developing brain and contribute to any number of attention type disorders.  And chapter ten includes everything a family needs to know for smooth transitioning when a new sibling joins the family.  This entire book is about creating quality time with a child and providing an overall pattern of love and security from the day they are born.
