EXTRAORDINARY CHARITIES Announces Donations to Two Local Nonprofit Organizations

April 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Palm Beach-Based EXTRAORDINARY CHARITIES Announces Donations to Two Local Nonprofit Organizations

First Edition of A Directory for Charitable Giving Has Already Generated More than $85,000 in Direct Donations

(Palm Beach, FL – April 9, 2013) Extraordinary Charities, Inc., a local nonprofit organization that publishes A Directory for Charitable Giving spotlighting outstanding and under-funded charities in Palm Beach County, today announced two new donations – one of which originated at the recent wedding between the organization’s co-founders: Beverlee Miller and John J. Raymond, Jr. of Palm Beach.

One of the gifts received by the newlyweds was a check for $2,000 and, around the same time, another generous friend (Christine Engelmaier) donated a 2005 8-seat Honda Odyssey in excellent condition – so Beverlee and John decided to “regift” the items to local nonprofits in need.

After careful research, Extraordinary Charities donated $1,000 and the van to a family with eight children who relocated to Palm Beach County following the devastating Haiti earthquake.  The donation was coordinated though Opportunity Inc.’s Early Childhood Center, one of the local nonprofits featured in the first edition of A Directory for Charitable Giving.

The remaining $1,0000 was donated directly to El Sol, Jupiter’s Neighborhood Resource Center, which will use the funds to purchase reusable water bottles, sunglasses, hats and sunscreen that will be given to unemployed men and women who regularly line Center Street seeking day labor opportunities.

“As summer approaches South Florida, the risk of dehydration and other heat-related illnesses rises. El Sol workers are at an especially high risk, with over 2,700 jobs placed in landscaping during 2012 and nearly 500 other jobs placed in other strenuous outdoor fields of employment. Their lack of reusable containers and protective clothing means that workers are often forced by circumstances to go out on jobs without water and are forced to use what is publicly available… (In addition) our Health Coordinator’s data shows that more than 80% of El Sol’s workers have eye damage from working long days under the sun. We believe that access to sunglasses and hats would protect our current workers from further eye damage while on the job and protect new workers from suffering initial eye damage,” said Jocelyn Skolnik, El Sol’s Executive Director.
