Infiniti Confirms Plans to Produce a New High-Performance Model

BARRINGTON, Ill. - April 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Car shoppers can expect to see a high-performance car at dealerships like Motor Werks Infiniti of Barrington (http://www.motorwerksinfiniti.com/index.htm) in the near future, or so says Johan de Nysschen, the automaker’s president. While discussing the release of the new Infiniti Q50 luxury sedan at the New York Auto Show last week, the Infiniti executive confirmed that there would be another debut to in the next few years. Not only that, but Infiniti plans to broaden the range overall, providing new cars at both higher and lower price points.

In the past several years, Infiniti has unveiled several high-performance concept cars. In 2009, Infiniti unveiled the Essence; last year, they showed off the Emerg-E. The Emerg-E is probably the more likely candidate for production. In concept form, it used a 408-hp hybrid powertrain, so it would likely offer sports car enthusiasts an option for both fuel economy and performance.

Whatever technology Infiniti decides to use in the new sports car, it would likely adopt design cues to fit into the new lineup and go by the brand’s new naming convention. That means it would likely be called the Q80, or, if there are both a sedan and a coupe version of car, they could be called Q80 and Q90, respectively. It’s also probable that there will be Infiniti Performance Line models that will come track-tuned with the help of the Red Bull Formula One team that Infiniti sponsors and Christian Vettel, Infiniti’s new Director of Performance and superstar Formula One driver.

Infiniti’s president also announced that there would be a smaller car positioned beneath the Infiniti Q50 sedan (http://www.motorwerksinfiniti.com/2014-infiniti-q50.htm), a new crossover called the QX70 that will replace the current Infiniti FX, and a new compact crossover, which will likely be called the QX50. De Nysschen said of the new cars, “We will quite likely see some very fascinating and highly aspirational models positioned above today’s M, or what will be in the future the Q70, and there will be some really attractive high-performance cars that will add to the aspirational appeal of the Infiniti brand.”
