Liberace's Gold Cadillac For Sale on Preloved

The sale comes at the time when interest in Liberace is set to reach an all-time high with academy-award winning director, Stephen Soederberg's biopic of the pianist, 'Behind the Candelbra – the Secret Life of Liberace', due for release in May. The film, starring Hollywood heavyweights Michael Douglas in the role of Liberace, alongside Matt Damon who plays the late superstar's young lover, Scott Thorson, explores the pair's tempestuous six-year relationship.

The convertible Cadillac is being sold by Preloved member, Mike Radcliffe in Mottram on Longdale, Cheshire, with an estimated value of £100,000.

Mr Radcliffe bought the car from Machester-based businessman and classic American car collector, Jim Thornbury in early 2011. "I was shown around his garage and there in the corner was the gold car. Jim told me the history of the car, and that it had been displayed in a museum in Germany for 14 years," Mike said.

After buying the car, Mike carried out a comprehensive five-month restoration programme to make it fully roadworthy. He has since taken it to regular displays at various motor shows across the UK. Mike said, "The car has been driven regularly since we put it on the road and most certainly is a show stopper. I take the car along and wear a sparkly red Liberace jacket! The car always causes a real stir and has won many awards."

As well as the typically flamboyant 23.5 carot gold leaf sleek bodywork, the classic Cadillac's other features include seven diamond crowns at centre of the wheels, two rubies in the radiator mascot, a valuable number plate, JAZ21; and the original white leather seats in the interior.

Mike is now selling the Cadillac along with two other cars as he is moving house and no longer has space for them.

"I shall be really sad to see her go as she's a fascinating and really eye-catching piece of popular culture and motoring history."
