CHICAGO - April 9, 2013 - PRLog -- April 9, 2013

Chicago, Illinois - Only 14 out of every 100 lost dogs will be returned to his home in Chicago, according to animal welfare group Lost Dogs Illinois. Realizing that nearly all pet owners follow the same routine when attempting to locate their lost companion, which typically includes putting up flyers on light poles, contacting shelters and posting on Craigslist.org, the creators of the crowdfynd mobile and web based app knew that technology could increase the odds of getting your pet back home.

Many services exist that aim to curb the lost pet scenario, but none approached the problem utilizing crowdsourcing and mobile phones. crowdfynd is a free mobile app (currently available in the iTunes store) and web based application that allows a frantic pet owner to quickly alert the entire community of app users in their city and across the nation to the exact location, description and even reward offered for their missing pet in just a few clicks. When used in unison with traditional pet recovery tactics, the likelihood of a pet coming back home grows since members of crowdfynd become a virtual search party.

Tools such as photo sharing, geotagging, direct messaging among app users and a lost pet recovery kit for easy downloading all immediately help aid in bringing a lost pet back home. The crowdfynd team is also working to build relationships with local animal shelters to directly stream their new arrivals, in which case owners would be able to simply scan the Found posts to possibly locate their pet.

Jay Sebben, crowdfynd co-founder and a pet owner who has lived through the agony of losing a pet, notes that leveraging the mobile phones already being used by the millions in Chicago provides a step that had been lacking in pet recovery.

"Losing an animal can be a painful experience. Trust me, I know. We’ve all seen lost dog fliers around town and currently, that’s the best way to spread the word about your missing pet. Our goal is to let people share information about their lost animal through a device they actually use on a daily basis: their smartphones. If dog is man’s best friend, his smartphone is a close second.”

Pets are just one of many categories of items and property found on https://www.crowdfynd.com and the Mobile App. Beyond changing the way we manage Lost and Found scenarios, crowdfynd also allows users to report Crime Tips to further amplify the power of crowdsourcing community good deeds.

Pricing and Availability: crowdfynd is a free app and can be downloaded immediately from the iTunes store or accessed at any time at https://www.crowdfynd.com. crowdfynd should be available for Android devices by late June 2013.
