KANSAS CITY, Mo. - April 5, 2013 - PRLog -- Phyllis Edson, freelance writer, today announced that she is now offering ghostwriting as part of her freelance writing services.

A ghostwriter is a person, a writer, who writes a book or other written work for someone else but does not claim any authorship of that work.   The ghostwriter takes none of the credit for the work and is almost never named.   The named author hires the ghostwriter to produce written copy for a fee.  It is work for hire.

According to Edson, ghostwriters are hired to produce business plans, proposals and reports by entrepreneurs.  Ghostwriters can also be hired to produce a variety of other written pieces, such as articles for websites, printed pieces, blogs and more.  The ghost is hired to ensure the written copy, no matter what it is, is clear, concise, grammatically correct, and accomplishes the goal it is meant to.

In businesses in which there is no writer on staff, hiring a freelance or ghostwriter is the most efficient, effective way to get quality, written copy.  Also, outsourcing writing services to a ghostwriter is many times more cost effective than having a professional writer on staff full-time.

“In this tight economy, business owners can hire a ghostwriter to do the writing and not have to pay the benefits that they would to full-time staff,” said Edson.

When hiring a ghostwriter, a business owner should not only ask for references and writing samples, but the owner should interview and talk with the perspective ghostwriter.  No matter what the project, the ghostwriter and business owner will need to have a comfortable, open relationship in which they can communicate well.

Edson said, before hiring the ghostwriter, be sure to discuss fees.  Once that’s done and an agreement is reached, be sure to put it in writing.  You’ll want an agreement that spells out a fee schedule and the number of revisions allowed.  You’ll also want to include a confidentiality clause, especially if the project is a book or ebook that you will publish.  The confidentiality clause will spell out that the ghostwriter will not reveal that he wrote any of the material at any time.

Edson provides research and writing services including ghostwriting, copy writing, web writing, press releases, content for newsletters, brochures, websites and blogs. She has 20 years of writing experience.  Edson has written for a broad variety of organizations including professional associations, non-profits, think tanks, political/governmental agencies and corporations.   For each client, she says, she provides professionally written, well-researched products that satisfy the needs of the individual client and appeal to that client’s audience.
