Honey Fest Day hosted by Local Beekeepers

CENTRAL FLORIDA, Fla. - April 4, 2013 - PRLog -- The Orange Blossom Beekeepers Association is holding their first ever "Honey Fest" event on Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Orange County Extension Offices located at 6021 S. Conway Road, Orlando, FL. It is free to everyone.

At the event, local beekeepers will be selling local honey and other products of the hive such as candles, skin cremes, lip balms, etc. Some beekeepers will be selling their homemade jams and jellies, bee and butterfly attracting plants and other foodstuffs. Doug McGuinnis of Tropical Blossom Honey will be selling his unique flavored honeys such as key line and tangerine. He also has honey from unusual sources such as Black Mangrove. Doug will also be giving a short lecture called "Branding for a Cause" highlighting organizations that allow local beekeepers to keep hives on their private property and the honey to be sold as a fundraiser for that organization, such as a museum, pioneer cemetery, Arts center or other charities.

A local beekeeping supply company, D & J Apiaries, will bring their portable store to sell any and all beekeeping equipment you may need. D & J are a Mann Lake Beekeeping Supply distributor located out of Umatilla, FL. They sell bee hives, bee suits and veils, tools, frames, foundation and more.

Making their second appearance at an OBBA event, Korean BBQ lunch truck will be selling their scrumptious Korean food. Last year they drove everyone crazy with the delicious smells coming from their truck. Everyone who participated this year is looking forward to their return.

The Florida Honey Queen, Susannah and the OBBA Honey Queen Rose and Princess Autumn will be giving cooking demonstrations each hour in the Rose classroom, a demonstration kitchen. The Queens will be preparing simple recipes made with honey and handing out samples. The recipes will be available in the form of brochures the Queens will be handing out.

Local beekeepers will be lecturing each hour, with time for questions and answers, on a variety of subjects such as Apitherapy, Colony Collapse Disorder, How Bees Make Honey and other topics. You don't want to miss these presentations.

This event is absolutely free to attend. There will be plenty of local honey to buy, but please remember that some beekeepers selling honey are not able to accept credit cards, but cash and checks are welcomed.
