NASHVILLE, Tenn. - April 4, 2013 - PRLog -- NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Worship leaders ought to lead the people of God with a guitar in one hand, a Bible in the other, and know how to use each weapon well, says Matt Boswell, editor of the acclaimed Doxology and Theology: How the Gospel Forms the Worship Leader (May 1, 2003, 9781433679728, $14.99).

Boswell, and eleven other contributors, each serving in congregations across the United States, start with the foundation that one of the greatest needs of the modern church is theologically driven worship leaders. From there, each shows how biblical theology (the study of God) should inform and propel doxology (praise to God).

Boswell's contributors are worship leaders that come from a range of influential churches like Village Church, pastored by Matt Chandler; Coral Ridge Church, pastored by Tullian Tchividjian; and Summit Church, pastored by J.D. Greear.

“We pray that God uses this book to awaken minds and hearts to the incredible role that worship leaders should play in the life of the mission of God,” explains Boswell. He adds, “This is a critical time in the life of the church. It is in desperate need of worship that is biblical, theological, and pastoral.”

Theology is not just the occupation of pastors and professors, while worship is the business of church musicians and songwriters. “Our churches are limping along with people who do not understand that the greatest truths of the gospel have always been designed to cause the greatest praise,” Boswell puts forth.

Doxology and Theology includes practical chapters on qualifications, mission, liturgy, creativity, discipleship making, and foremost the gospel.

As contributor Aaron Ivey puts it, “No longer can worship pastors simply be satisfied with writing and arranging good songs . . . and asking people to sing them. We have a much higher calling on our lives – a calling to reflect the mission and way of Jesus.”

Doxology and Theology has been called “a provocative, comprehensive resource for gospel-centered worship written by the leading voices in the new movement,” (J.D. Greear, lead pastor, Summit Church).
