YONKERS, N.Y. - April 4, 2013 - PRLog -- On March 31st at 12:47 PM: Empress EMS along with Yonkers Police Department ESU was dispatched to a 911 call at Coyne Park in the City of Yonkers for a reportedly unconscious person.    Approximately 4 minutes after dispatch, multiple Empress Paramedic Units began arriving on scene to find a 21 year old male that had gone into sudden cardiac arrest while playing basketball with his father. The patient had no pulses and was not breathing. Several family members were present at the time and witnessed the incident.    CPR had been started by bystanders, and was continued by Yonkers Police ESU who along with the first arriving Empress EMS Unit, administered defibrillation shocks using their Automated External Defibrillator in an attempt to restart the victim's heart.     A Paramedic Lt. Supervisor, along with Empress Paramedics and EMTs immediately intervened, providing Advanced Cardiac Life Support. By rapidly employing the latest advanced emergency care procedures: Empress Paramedics utilizing cardiac monitoring, multiple additional bi-phasic defibrillations, and the administration of several intravenous cardiac resuscitation medications along with support from Yonkers Police ESU, continued in an exhaustive effort to revive the patient.     As a result of this coordinated response and the rapid delivery of nationally recognized Paramedic level pre-hospital care, the crews were able to successfully resuscitate the young man. His heart rate, pulses and respirations returned while at the park. The Empress Paramedics were able to further stabilize the patient and transport him to the local hospital for post-resuscitation  care.     The patient was transferred shortly thereafter to Westchester Medical Center for further definitive cardiac evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.    The patient is currently awake and alert with his family in the hospital.    Nationally, less than 10% of out of hospital cardiac arrest victims survive to be discharged from the hospital. This fortunate young man was the beneficiary of coordinated, intensive, advanced pre-hospital care team work.    This is the third fully successful cardiac arrest resuscitation by Empress EMS's 911 Paramedics this month.    Go to: http://www.empressems.com
