IMMEDIATE RELEASE:       Can you go 72 hours without a drink?

Atlanta, GA, April 4, 2013- April is Alcohol Awareness Month and this weekend, April 5th-7th, has been designated by NCADD (National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence) as Alcohol Free Weekend. The focus of this experiment is to reveal if there is difficulty in abstaining from alcohol during this 72-hour period.

Mike Sanders, founder of ExecuCare Addiction Recovery Center in Norcross, Georgia explains addiction this way, "Despite common misconceptions, addiction is not a lack of will power, a moral failing, or a character flaw. It is a brain disease and in order to treat addiction, we must attack the disease at its physical root.”

Research now shows that chronic drinking damages receptors sites in the brain and over-stimulates the neuro-transmitter, dopamine, which produces our feelings of pleasure.  This can lead to depression, anxiety, intense cravings, withdrawal symptoms and the desire to drink more.

Dr. Jacquie Damgaard, Executive Director at ExecuCare, says, “The one thing missing from most traditional treatment is the actual treatment of the physical disease.”  The Neurotransmitter Restoration Therapy (NTR) offered at ExecuCare addresses this physical component of dependency by naturally detoxing the body from alcohol and accelerating the brain’s healing, so that the person experiences simple pleasures again.

This month, ExecuCare Addiction Recovery Center is offering free Alcohol Dependency Assessments at their facility in Norcross. These confidential screenings are conducted privately by Dr. Damgaard and are arranged by calling ExecuCare at 877-276-2224 or going online at www.ExecuCareARC.com.

NCADD suggests that people who find it difficult to abstain from alcohol this weekend seek information on alcoholism from professionals like those at ExecuCare and support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Al-Anon Family groups.
