Teaching in China; A New Opportunity

BARNSLEY, U.K. - April 4, 2013 - PRLog -- The growing interest in China is apparent for everyone to see, it has come about not so much through organic means but as a necessity running linear with the ever prominent role the country now plays on the world stage. The new world is in fact an extremely old one and to keep up, the next generation will have to become fully aware of the deeply ingrained traditions this civilization has to offer.

It must be firstly understood the tremendous efforts China has made in expanding its knowledge of the west. Western culture is apparent wherever you look in China, whether it is the clear materialistic desires of the Chinese population seen through the car market and designer goods sold on virtually every high street, or the Chinese wedding featuring the classic white dress. China is fully aware of its international neighbours.

Possibly the most definitive example of its strives to compete the world stage is its entirely obsessive drive to learn English. Children as young as three are being placed in private training centres to study English and it is quickly becoming a staple on a kindergarten's curriculum. It is studied throughout state education from the age of six and is considered paramount in high school examinations. Many of the most successful Chinese students will study two degrees simultaneously, one being English, to fulfill their potential.

This again is exacerbated by protective and driven parents who want only the best for their (possibly) only child. Figures as high as 33% are suggested for the amount of earnings spent on extra curricular education.

All this has led to an English teaching market within China which is mind blowing, from the big players such as Wall Street English and English First, to the smaller independent centres, public and private institutions alike have jumped on this hugely profitable band wagon. What is interesting from the west's point of view is the employment opportunities that have arisen from this. It is now possible for UK nationals to easily gain employment within China through teaching English. The Exchange Centre is an excellent example of an agency working with quality educational institutions to provide teachers. Through employment within China individuals are able to experience first hand what the world of the future has to offer.
